All About Trail 2 Truth 2022

"Trail 2 Truth: Eyes Wide Open" is a province-wide youth event in Spring 2022

Spring 2022, youth from around Province III are gathering regionally with their dioceses for our 2nd annual Trail to Truth Pilgrimage. Some dioceses have chosen to do a day event while others are hosting an overnight retreat. The events are taking place at a location chosen by the diocesan leadership with common liturgy and additional video components provided by the Province.

Trail 2 Truth focuses on racial and social inequity, and participants will discuss the history of racial injustice in America, cultural identity, inclusion, unconscious bias, and more. The mission of the 2022 Pilgrimage is "to encourage a deeper understanding of Christ’s call to justice, examining our own unconscious biases and listening for God’s direction within us to respect the dignity of every human being through the work of racial reconciliation."

Some of these events have already taken place:

  • The Episcopal Diocese of Washington hiked the Underground Railroad Experience Trail in Sandy Spring MD on the afternoon of April 2, following workshops on Cultural Competency and Unconscious Bias in the morning.

  • The Diocese of Southwestern Virginia titled their pilgrimage "Black in Appalachia." It took place from April 1-3, 2022. Youth from across the diocese participated in the pilgrimage to trace the roots of black history in the Appalachian Mountains. They created this short video, which includes snapshots from each stop along their journey:
